Insomnia is not just about having difficulty falling asleep, it encompasses a variety of sleep issues that can affect your general health and well-being. It’s a condition that can manifest in several ways, making it a complex challenge to address.

For some people insomnia involves trouble falling asleep each night, often due to an overactive mind full of racing thoughts. Others may experience waking up multiple times throughout the night, which disrupts their rest and leaves them feeling tired and unrefreshed. For some, insomnia can involve early-morning waking, where you wake up too early and can’t get back to sleep, this leaves you feeling exhausted before the day has even begun.

These patterns can lead to fatigue, low mood, irritability, poor concentration and even depression. This could then impact your work, relationships, and general well-being.

While occasional sleeplessness can happen to anyone, chronic insomnia is defined by difficulty sleeping at least three times a week for three months or longer. This long-term disruption can be physically and emotionally draining, leading to a cycle of frustration that makes it even harder to fall asleep.

People with chronic insomnia may find themselves constantly worrying about their sleep, anticipating another night of restlessness. This cycle of sleep anxiety can increase the difficulty of falling asleep, as the fear of not sleeping intensifies stress and keeps you alert rather than relaxed.

Sleep should be an unconscious process which happens naturally, but for one reason or another this process becomes disrupted and an unatural viscous cycle sets in. Hypnotherapy is able to reset your body’s natural ability to sleep deeply, by focusing on both the mind and body to restore deep and restful sleep.

I offer a free 15 minute initial telephone call, so we can make sure hypnotherapy would be the right treatment for you, and give you the opportunity to get your questions answered.

Our eating habits, both good and bad, tend to be controlled by our unconscious mind. That’s why we use a combination of NLP and hypnosis to directly work with the unconscious and transform unwanted eating habits into healthy ones.

Emotional factors can often contribute to weight gain or the inability to control weight. By addressing both the unhealthy habits and the emotional factors related to over-eating, we can facilitate successful changes in a natural and easy manner.

There are four golden rules for restoring normal eating reflexes in a human being that go totally against what many diet books would have you think.

They are:

When you are hungry; eat.

Eat what you want, not what you think you should have.

Eat consciously.

When you think you are full, stop.

During the initial consultation these golden rules are discussed in detail and make perfect sense to anyone wishing to control their weight permanently.

Our sessions do not include structured dieting, as diets do not usually work. This is because we feel that we are depriving ourselves of something, and so we crave it even more.

The moment you inform your brain that you are restricting food intake, you trigger your body to retain fat. Recognizing the influence of the unconscious mind on weight loss can bring about a great sense of liberation and personal empowerment in a area that concerns many people.

Our weight loss program involves an initial review in which we identify areas of concern regarding dietary and motivational habits. The hypnosis sessions will then focus on the main areas identified, such as eating too quickly or a lack of motivation to exercise. Most clients begin to feel the positive changes after the 1st session, and by the 3rd session their desire to consume unhealthy foods has been greatly reduced.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss is a chance for you to make a permanent lifestyle change. You decide for yourself during hypnosis that you no longer desire unhealthy foods, and so you become able to take them or leave them. You can Click Here to find out more or schedule an appointment.

Stress is part of everyday life and, to some degree a necessary part of life, giving us motivation and allowing a sense of satisfaction or reward when the stress-giving situation is completed. Many people have stressful jobs which they enjoy immensely – so stress itself is not a bad thing. Suffering stress however, is a different matter entirely.

Signs of Stress:

Have a think about the following Signs of stress and see if they relate to your life:-

Low Energy: Difficulty falling asleep. Disturbed sleep during the night. Waking too early. Feeling constantly tired. Finding yourself cat-napping often.

Irritable: Getting irritated or short-tempered with family or friends. Experiencing loss of sense of humour. Rarely feeling amused or entertained by things others seem to enjoy or that you used to appreciate yourself.

Indecision: Decisions seem inappropriately important and difficult. Events seeming beyond your control. Feeling overwhelmed by situations.

Distraction: Easily distracted. Concentration and short-term memory letting you down. Tasks left unfinished before rushing to a different one.

Food: Irregular eating, loss of appetite or eating compulsively even when not hungry.

Excuses: Finding excuses to refuse invitations or social events (it’s too cold out, too far away, no point, too much to do, etc). Lack of interest in life.

Unsettled: Experiencing frequent stomach upsets or feeling nauseous for no obvious reason.

We all experience some of the above on occasion, and in themselves they are not something to worry about; but if you find that three or more of them are being experienced regularly or frequently by you then you may well be suffering from stress.

Physical Symptoms

It has long been recognised just how much suffering stress can affect our lives – from headaches and migraine to poor immunity against colds or viruses. Long periods of stress or too much stress can cause flare-ups of skin complaints (psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis or facial spots). It can create physical tension in any part of the body and, of course, a tendency to worry.

Hypnotherapy can be used to instill a lasting feeling of calmness and relaxation, so that you feel more able to deal with things. Events and situations which currently trigger a stress response within you will no longer seem to do so, so that you feel in complete control.

When we went into lockdown last March, it was a huge change for all of us to process. As the weeks dragged on many people began to feel the affects of isolation and uncertainty, and whether we realise it or not this has had an impact on the quality of our mental health.

Our brains will have unconsciously adapted to lock-downs, interacting less with people and generally having a slower pace of life. So when it comes to unlocking and going back to work in a world that feels different, it can cause anxiety within us. The unlocking takes as much psychological energy as it did to lock-down. The anxiety of not knowing and the invisible health threat does not simply disappear, because we are told we now have our freedoms back.

Our minds need time to adjust to the changing world around us, and if you are feeling anxious then hypnotherapy is a great way to release this anxiety, so that you feel relaxed and able to take on new challenges.

COVID-19 has impacted just about every aspect of our lives and that includes therapy. Hypnotherapy can be effectively conducted through online video, and this can easily be done through Whatsapp or Zoom.

Advantages:

More flexibility regarding appointment times.

No travel time or issues regarding parking.

No issues for those with mobility problems.

Therapy from the comfort of your own home, you just need a space with an internet connection where you won’t be disturbed.

Disadvantages:

Hands-on therapy such as reflexology, massage and reiki (except for distance reiki) are no longer possible, so therapists who previously offered hypnotherapy plus one of these types of services may now only offer hypnotherapy.

A reliable internet connection is needed.

A quiet, undisturbed place, which is a confidential space, is needed (no children/pets passing through, no tv in the background etc).

So please feel free to contact me for available appointment times, or if you would like more information about online sessions. I will talk you through how to set everything up, so that you are ready to go before the first session. Please email enquiries@hypnotherapypractice.co.uk or call 016898 31662, and I will be happy to help.

If you are tired of feeling let down when public speaking or presenting and want to change. If you have a message and want to get it across effectively, and you want to be confident and authentic while you do it, then Hypnotherapy with NLP can help you.

NLP is an interpersonal communications model that can be applied to remove the fear of public speaking. When you remove fear & anxiety and apply NLP techniques and strategies to your speaking, you can be genuine and authentic, which then naturally leads to credibility.

Once you are viewed as credible you can more easily build rapport and influence your audience. Present at senior level, make dynamic pitches, and speak in front of large or small audiences.

There is a solution that can take away all negative thoughts and feelings associated with public speaking. The solution is hypnotherapy. Public Speaking Confidence through hypnosis helps the mind to be at ease and secure when faced with an audience. The brain has a default setting that gives off a negative, unconscious reaction when undertaking public speaking. Hypnotherapy sets out to deprogram this default setting, and reprogram it to relax during public speaking events.

Our Public Speaking Program is specifically designed to address your core speaking issue or anxiety, and change the anxiety to calmness and excitement. You will learn powerful NLP techniques to get your message across clearly and persuasively. You can Click Here to find out more or schedule an appointment.

January is the time of year when everyone sets their New Year’s resolutions, and generally look to start the year in a positive direction. You may want to give up smoking, lose weight or start a new exercise routine. However you may have tried doing this last year, and even the year before! without any great success. So what goes wrong!?

The problem lies within the unconscious part of our minds, this part consists of all of the learned behaviours we have trained ourselves with over the course of our lives. The unconscious mind works automatically for us all day long, so that we can automatically repeat what we have already learnt to do. Although this is great most of the time, it also has a down side when it comes to making changes. When we consciously decide that its time to change a bad habit, because we know consciously that it’s bad for us, the subconscious mind wants to carry on doing it regardless! The subconscious mind does not know the difference between good and bad, it simply prefers to do what it has already been programmed to do, and this also uses less energy.

So we need to re-programme the subconscious, in order to make sure that it does not revert back to its previous habits. This can take many months or even years of dedicated work to achieve, but with the use of Hypnotherapy it is possible to bring about the desired changes much more quickly. We will examine the conscious changes you wish to make, and then under hypnosis speak directly to the subconscious mind so that bad habits can be replaced with good ones.

People often ask me if everyone can be hypnotised. Hypnotisability is a characteristic that can be hereditary, and is also influenced by environmental factors (e.g. life experiences). So the answer is that everyone is at least moderately hypnotisable, and this is all that is necessary for you to benefit from clinical hypnotherapy.

Some people have very bad anxiety, and ask “Will hypnosis work on me?” And the answer is yes, even if you are suffering with ‘anticipatory anxiety.’ Many people with anxiety disorders have anticipatory anxiety. That is, once people have had an unexpected experience that elicited a negative or uncomfortable reaction, they can often become worried and/or expectant that it will happen again.

Similarly, sometimes people will generalise their anxiety from a particular thing to something related to that thing. Anticipatory anxiety and generalisable anxiety ARE negative self-hypnotic suggestions. You are literally giving yourself the suggestion that you are going to become anxious… and voilà… you become anxious.

So if you are talented at giving yourself negative hypnotic suggestions, it means that you are hypnotisable and also have the capacity to be responsive to positive hypnotic suggestion! Anxious people are already skilled at imagining something vividly, and experiencing the reality of that imagining in an emotional and or physiological reaction.

As a registered Hypnotherapist I am encouraging the public to look for practitioners registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), if they want to use hypnotherapy to help them give up smoking during Public Health England’s (PHE) Stoptober campaign.

According to the Royal Society for Public Health and the government-backed Professional Standards Authority (PSA), practitioners on Accredited Registers such as CNHC’s are an untapped resource who have a key role to play in supporting public health initiatives such as giving up smoking.

Commenting on the accredited registers workforce, PSA Chief Executive Harry Cayton said: “It is a vital network through which we can support behaviour change and ultimately improve the public’s health: whether it is signposting people to smoking cessation services or offering brief lifestyle advice on healthy eating, accredited register practitioners are undoubtedly an unsung and instrumental part of the wider public health workforce.” [1]

Hypnotherapy is often used to help clients achieve the behavioural change needed to stop smoking, but it’s so important the public use someone who knows what they are doing. As a CNHC registrant my credentials have been checked so the public can choose with confidence.

So make the decision to stop smoking today and request an appointment. If you have any questions please email me at enquiries@hypnotherapypractice.co.uk or call 016898 31662, and I will be happy to help.
